Working patterns and career structures have been set up by men to suit male needs and have changed little over the years. The current corporate environment prioritises profits and competition over social cohesion and quality of life.

But what if women could run things with different structures and priorities? Many women want and need flexibility to accommodate their caring responsibilities for children, parents and elderly relatives. What if we could put caring at the heart of society and make work fit around it? A new corporate ethos could benefit us all, but it requires big changes.

These are just some of the ideas to emerge from a new project undertaken by Deborah Hargreaves, founder of the High Pay Centre, funded by a journalistic fellowship from the Friends Provident Foundation. Deborah spoke to women across the career spectrum and age range about what they wanted from work and how they might change things if they could. She has developed a manifesto for change that embraces these ideas.

Join us to discuss the proposals with an expert panel including:

  • Deborah Hargreaves – Writer and Founder, High Pay Centre
  • Moni Mannings – Non-executive Director of Investec, Polypipe and Barnardo’s
  • Esi Hardy – Managing Director, Celebrating Disability
  • Kate Grussing – Managing Director, Sapphire Partners executive search
  • Claire Walker – Co-Executive Director of Policy and Campaigns, British Chambers of Commerce
  • Kathy Evans – Chief Executive, Children England
  • Tracey McDermott – Group Head of Corporate Affairs and Compliance, Standard Chartered
  • Joanna Elson – Chief Executive, the Money Advice Trust and Trustee, Friends Provident Foundation (Chair)
