Leading across the leader-follower pay gap

A webinar discussing how escalating CEO pay may impair leadership ability and shape social dynamics within organisations. (10:00-11:00, Tuesday 19 November)

The decades-long trend of escalating CEO pay shows no signs of abating. Kim Peters, Nik Steffens and Alex Haslam are part of an international team of psychologists who aim to shed light on the way in which high leader pay can shape social dynamics within organisations. At this event, Kim, Nik and Alex will briefly summarise research that shows that high pay may directly impair CEOs’ capacity to perform their core function: leading their organisation.

Kim Peters is Professor of Management at the University of Exeter Business School. Her work is directed towards understanding how group and social influence processes affect the ability of groups, organizations, and societies to meet collective challenges and thrive.

Niklas Steffens is Associate Professor and Director of the Centre for Business and Organizational Psychology in UQ’s School of Psychology. Nik conducts fundamental and applied research to uncover psychological drivers that make groups and organisations fairer, more motivating, more effective, and healthier.

Alex Haslam is Professor of Psychology and Australian Laureate Fellow at the University of Queensland. His research focuses on the study of group and identity processes in social, organizational and clinical contexts. Together with over 200 co-authors around the world, Alex has written and edited 12 books and published over 200 peer-reviewed articles on these topics.
