The High Pay Centre, in association with the Smith Institute, will be hosting an event at this year’s Labour Party Conference Fringe, asking ‘Is tackling excessive top pay anti-business?’
Sharp rises in executive pay in recent years mean that a top boss now takes home more in two days than someone on average wages earns in a year. Multi-million pound awards for leading chief executives have even shocked some in the business community. But attempts to tackle excessive corporate pay are often labelled as an attack on aspiration and an attempt to stifle entrepreneurialism. Can Labour articulate the business and economic case for tackling huge pay disparities?
