The North East of England is frequently criticised for being dependent on public spending. But the dominance of supermarkets, high street chain stores, the ‘big 6’ energy companies, major mobile phone networks, chain pubs and restaurants and other big corporations means that far more money is transferred out of the region than comes into it.

The ITV Tyne Tees Evening News interviewed our Head of Research Luke Hildyard about the report and discussed some of its findings.
